Throttle is usually associated with petrol engines. However, throttle valves are also found in modern diesel engines. They are used under different names, often general and not linking to intake system:

– regulating throttle,
– throttle valve,
– swirl flap,
– swirl control valve,
– intake manifold flap

Air throttles in diesel engines came into use in 2000. As in most cases, the main decisive factor in favor of this design was ecology.

The throttle in diesel engine is aimed at improving performance of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), that results in lover emissions and engine protection from sudden vibrations during shutdown.

Each part of diesel engine, including air throttle can fail due to poor operating conditions. Excessive amount of engine oil (faulty crankcase ventilation) and soot (EGR system) in intake manifold can lead to a damage.

To check operation of electronic throttle control it is necessary to use dedicated tester. To force throttle movement it is required to apply specific control signals. DTA-1 tester is designed for just such tasks.

DTA-1 device enables throttle diagnosis and is especially suited for companies specialized in regeneration of throttles as well as workshops offering wide range of repairs.

The device is designed for electronically controlled throttles. It allows you to set the throttle in required position by sending appropriate control signals. Measured throttle current draw is main determinant of correct operation.
