The IFM-2 flow meter is an instrument designed to test the expense and overflow of diesel engine injectors on a test bench. The IFM-2 allows simultaneous measurement of the discharge and overflow of a single injector under test, replacing classic menzies.

The included injection pulse sensor gives the ability to display the flow rates per set number of injections (counted with the detector). It is possible to view measured values continuously or to average measurements over a longer period for greater accuracy.

Thanks to the use of a unique technology, it is not necessary to use additional filters on the inputs of the flowmeter because it is resistant to fine contaminants.

The flow meter can work with a PC or laptop by communicating with it via USB. The computer program allows you to define and execute test plans, and collate up to 6 individual measurements.

After the test is completed, you can print a report showing the technical condition of the tested injectors. It is possible to print out the test results for the entire set of injectors (maximum 6) at the same time.

According to the measurement standards for the injection apparatus, the temperature of the calibration oil on the bench is to be 40°C +/- 2°C. However, the fuel entering the flow meter should have a temperature of no more than 40°C – this requires the use of a cooler (included).

Two dedicated coolers are offered with the device, allowing to provide the required measurement conditions in typical bench measurements (best performance up to 200 ml/min):

Technical parameters:

Supply voltage 12V DC
Power consumption max. 12W (1A)
Medium calibration fluid
Working conditions temp. 0 60°C
Flow measurement 1 – 500 ml/min
Number of flow meter channels 2
Available units ml/min, ml/wtr, mg/wtr, l/h
Measurement accuracy 2.00%
Measurement of injection pulses 25…5000 wtr/min

IFM-2 – FAQ

I lost my software CD. How can I get the software?

The software for the device can be downloaded after prior registration and logging in to our website: https://dte.com.pl/en/my-data/. In case of using the device in a set with InEx-2 (with injector database), please contact the technical support by e-mail: support@dte.com.pl

I have a problem with installing the driver under Windows 10/11?

In the case of Windows 10/11, the system automatically installs the system’s serial port driver. To properly communicate with the flowmeter software, you must force the installation of a driver from DTE. Details can be found in the Manual bundled with the current software that can be downloaded after prior registration and logging in to our website: https://dte.com.pl/en/my-data/.

My device stopped communicating with my computer after Windows 10 update.

Users have reported instances of resetting the driver to the default serial port after updating Windows. In this case, force the driver installation again. Details can be found in the Manual bundled with the current software that can be downloaded after prior registration and logging in to our website: https://dte.com.pl/en/my-data/.

Does IFM-2 control the injectors?

The device measures the output of the injectors that need to be actuated from another source. The IFM-2 does not drive the injectors by itself. In order to build complete injector testing solution, it is necessary to have a test bench that allows to set pressure on the CR pump and provides a signal for the injectors. If you have a bench that does not support CR pumps, you can use the TCR-4 tester to control the operation of the Common Rail pump. If there is no injector control device, the ICR-4 or InEx-2 can be used to generate the injector signal.

Where can I get the injector database?

The test data for the injectors are related to the characteristics of the control signals. You should use the database of the test bench on which the IFM-2 is mounted (in case it replaces the measuring cylinders) or develop such procedures yourself for typical injectors in the case of self-made tables.

Can I test truck injectors?

The included fuel coolers provide sufficient cooling capacity for flows including injectors for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. In the case of heavy duty injectors, the fuel flow may be too high for the included cooling. In that case, consider replacing the coolers or modifying the test plans.

Is the flowmeter resistant to fuel contamination?

The design of the device allows for the occasional passing of small metal particles (e.g. filings from a damaged pump) in the fuel without adversely affecting the device. Of course, larger items may clog the tubes or measurement sensors. Chemical hazards in the form of aggressive agents added to the fuel, e.g. for cleaning injectors, are a greater threat than metal particles. When testing injection elements, use calibration oil according to ISO 4113. The oil must be changed regularly. The use of regular diesel fuel containing bioadditives in a closed cycle for a long time may damage the injection elements and the flow meter. Under these conditions, bacterial growth may occur, leading to the formation of deposits that are difficult or impossible to remove from the device, and may interfere with the measurement.
